- In the present era humans are creating many sky touching monuments and buildings which are mighty enough and also building architecture which are mighty such as burj Khalifa, trade tower and statue like the statue of unity and liberty but making all these things must not wonder you much, because you know that in present era technology is developed much. We have giant machines to help in the construction of all these structures which ease the work. But what if I tell you that thousands of years ago humans can create constructions better than today's, you won't believe it right, but today I will tell you about The caves of Ajanta which are constructed thousands of years ago without any modern technology.
- The beautiful caves of Ajanta are carved from a single mountain with the help of only hammers and chisels by the workers. Ajanta caves are situated in the Indian state of Maharashtra, it is said that an British army officer named John Smith, who went for hunting in the forest discovered the caves first in the year 1819 ,archaeologists researched on these caves and found that the Ajanta caves were around 4000 years old.
- Now the biggest question arises everytime is that which type of technology is been used to cut the huge mountain and made the beautiful caves of Ajanta. The caves of Ajanta have 24 Buddhist monastery called as viharas and 5 Hindu temples. These caves were carved out of a Rock which is about 80 metres high and 380 metres long.
- The Hindu temples present at the caves of Ajanta are made up of 4000000 ton of stones, thats a mighty weight you know, but here the question arises that about 4000 years ago without the presence of modern technology how this much amount of stones were being managed to carve? And the most important thing about the marvelous ajanta caves Is that these caves were only carved by a single peace of rock and without any joint, doesn't it freaks you out?
- It is also written in the old scriptures of the Buddhists and Hindus that under the caves of Ajanta a beautiful city is present which is the way to travel into another world and a tunnel joining the caves and the mysterious underground city is also present at the Ajanta caves, but it is sure that no modern technology or humans can built the structures like the caves of Ajanta but how did people managed to do it 4000 years ago, that's the big question. Who build the Ajanta caves ??
- The marvelous caves of Ajanta were said to be build by the local feudalistic lord and king Upendragupta ,the caves numbering 17, 20 and 29 were seen to be built under the rule of Raja Upendragupta in the 2nd century BC , all the caves were carved into a horseshoe shape , the cave number 1 and 3 were said to be made by Emperor Harisen during his short reign between (460 -477 C.E) .
- cave no 9 and 10 are the most oldest amongst the all 29 caves and required a time period of about 400 years to complete. The caves 4, 6, 11, 15, 16 and 17 were made between 350 - 500 AD, but no one ever knows who made the other caves of Ajanta, it's still a mystery for researchers and the archaeologists.

- The Ajanta caves are one of the oldest UNESCO world Heritage site in India. And are about 4000 years old.
- The caves of Ajanta are the home to some of the most marvelous Masterpiece of Indian Art and the paintings in these caves are inspired by the Jataka Tales.
- It is believed that several Buddhist monks spent a significant amount of time at the Ajanta caves during the monsoons as they were forbidden from travelling during that particular period of the year. This was the time when the monks put their creativity and time to use and painted the walls of the caves.
- The caves of Ajanta are believed to be existent since the pre-Christian era, the oldest being Cave 10 which is dated back to second century B. C.
- Ajanta caves are popular across the world for its stunning murals and other paintings that contribute to world art and are considered to be treasures of ancient Indian art
