  • Taj mahal often described as one of the wonder of the world was a very beautiful monument made under the rule of mughal emperor shah jahan in the memory of his third wife mumtaz mahal. mumtaz mahal was most beloved wife of shah jahan .so shah jahan decided to construct taj mahal for his wife mumtaz after her death in 1631. Taj mahal was situated on the south bank of yamuna river in the city of agra. The white marble used in taj mahal was imported from rajasthan by the help of elephants. The taj mahl was completely built in 20 years with the help of 22000 workers .


STRUCTURE OF TAJ MAHAL 


  • The structure of taj mahal was widely spread in 17 hectares or 42 acres with an height of 73 meters .The taj mahal was constructed with several materials from all over the india and asia .
  • It took 22000 labours and 1000 elephants to construct and transport the materials from all over the india .
  • The taj mahal was centred between four pillares on the square boundaries which are little bit tilted outside to prevent the damage to the main building at the time of earthquakes . 
  • A tomb made of marble was placed at the top of the taj mahal, generally called as onion dome. 
  • Taj mahal is built on a foundation which is supported by gigantic wooden slabes built over deep wells. According to experts wood fibers are dimensionally stable when the moisture content is above fiber saturation points .

   THREATS TO THE TAJ MAHAL


  • In 1942 the government used bamboo scaffolding to protect the monument from the bombers of japan and germany during world war 2.
  • The same bamboo scaffolding was also used as protection during the india pakistan war in 1965 and 1971.
  • The most hazardious threat to taj mahal in current time is pollution (acid rain) which is turning the white marble into yellow and green .

      MYTHS AND CONTROVERSIES. ABOUT TAJ.

  • One of the biggest myth about taj mahal is that "shah jahan built a black taj mahal for himself and his grave was inside the black taj mahal " .
  • One of the controversial fact about taj mahal is that after the completion of taj mahal the hands of all the workers were cutted off so that they will never make a monument as beautiful as taj mahal.
  • Another controversy was that the taj mahal was built on a hindu temple of lord shiva and the temple was still their under the taj mahal.

 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT TAJMAHAL.

  • It takes 20 years to complete the monument of the taj mahal with the help of 22000 labours including painters ,embroidery artists and stonecutters.
  • 1000 elephants were used as a source of transportation in making taj mahal .
  •  Taj Mahal is a floating structure, it is perched on a wooden floor. The floor is made up of ebony wood, one of the finest and dense wood. It is that much dense that it can sink in water. It is said that the Taj Mahal never get flood even if the River Yamuna crosses all the limits.
  • It costs approx 53 billion rupees to make the taj mahal in current time .
  • Indian government earn approx 87 crore rupees from taj mahal during 2018-2019.
  • Indian magician PC Sorcar Jr "made the taj mahal disappear into thin air, leaving a blank space at the site. The magician was assisted by his daughter, Maneka, who made the monument reappear after two minutes.
